I brought these concerns to the owner and she basically shot down every single one of my concerns. Basically told me to go f*** myself.
Great place to learn how to train your dog.
I love ABC!!! I first met Robi (the owner) back in 2009 when I got my first dog. I had had dogs before but they were the family dogs. I work as a vet tech and have seen what poor or improper training can do. I knew some training things but wanted Maggie to be socialized as well. Our beginner class was AMAZING!!! Robi will correct you right away, (don't feel embarrassed because trust me, EVERYONE in the class will be in this position) she will show you how to do it properly and then show you how you were doing it, and OH BOY do you ever notice a difference. I have gone back for some tips, treats, my newest rescue LOVES to chew so we have to go and get Maggie a new gentle leader this week, and my girls will be coming with for the trip.
We were the odd man out the entire time and graduation made this feeling even worse. She put 2 dogs up at a time and timed them, and you werent allowed to sit down until your dog did the command. My dog (who was not fixed yet) could not focus at all and was last every time. The instructor said i have to work through the distractions. How could I possibly do this when her attention span is that of a fruit fly?
The breed I have can tend to be stubborn and require a little more attention for training. She gave me no extra help and just watched me struggle while she helped and praised all the other dogs who were doing what they were supposed to do--all of which were easily trainable dogs like labs or golden retrievers.
Absolutely horrible experience. I asked if my puppy who was pushing the age limit for Puppy Kindergarten would be allowed to sign up--she said yes, so I paid. After I paid, she said only 3 people signed up, so they would combine the Puppy Kindergarten and the Beginner Training classes. (I also received emails after the class was over about signing up for last minute classes. There was a note in the email that said only 3 dogs have signed up for some classes, but they would still run them anyway--hypocritical and not fair).
I would highly recommend ABC for your dog training, it's made my life so much easier! I have 2 dogs that are rescues, one of which is 10 months old I thought would be nearly impossible to obey any commands until Robi worked with us. We are almost done with the course and I can't believe how far both have come as far as obeying commands and overall behavior.
And the gentle leader?? That was Robi. We were in class and Maggie wasn't listening, pulling, wanting to play, nothing we did got her attention (I think she had doggie ADD), even Robi tried, she got Maggie's attention but it only lasted a few seconds. That's when Robi said to try it. That was 2 1/2 years ago, almost 3. Maggie loves it!! You squat down to her level (shes just above knee height) hold it open and just ask her if shes ready to go and she will stick her face right in it. I wouldn't recommend or trust anyone else with training classes other than Robi and ABC Obedience.
There was no Puppy K incorporated into the class. My dog was the smallest and the youngest in the class, so all she wanted to was play and socialize (exactly what she needed with Puppy K). I knew it wouldn't turn out well when the instructor called my 4 month old puppy "the biggest spaz in the room"--and not in a playful joking manner. This was one of many jabs at me and my dog.
Puppy Kindergaten is a fun and helpful way to socialize a puppy and get them started on the right track. Highly recommend this place!
